anniversary celebration

1 minute read time.

Last saturday, my husband and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary, one which we didn't think we would make because he has terminal cancer.  Because of the risk that he might get ill, (or maybe me) I had the brilliant idea that we could have a big gathering of family and friends at home, using 2 gazebos in the garden and doing the catering myself.  (idiotic me!)  I wanted to reaffirm our vows and in some way say thank you to the powers that be that we were both still here.  I persuaded my dearest friend  Jools to conduct the 'ceremony'  and my daughter came the week before and together we prepared everything for the event.  As it turned out, my decision to self cater was a wise one because 3 weeks before the day, my husband had a mild stroke, causing him vertigo, visual disturbance and sickness.  However, my husband didn't let this get in the way and told me he would recover in time, even if he couldn't walk and he'd pinch my wheelchair if necessary!  True to his word, he was able to stagger around and circulate and he had a great time.

The outcome was that we and all our extended family came together and had a truly wonderful day, full of sunshine ( for which I gave a silent prayer of thanks) and only after everyone helped to take down the gazebos, clear the rubbish, stack the 40 odd chairs, did the torrential rain come down while we were safe and dry indoors.

I know in my heart that this was the last big celebration for us but it was worth all the work and the money because we created a memory to add to our 'mind scrapbook' which we can recall whenever we want or need to when the going gets tough.  From now on, I will be blogging regularly. to share the ups and downs of our lives with all of you who will understand what we are going through.  Next blog I will give you more info about our situation and our background (well, the good bits anyway)  So bye for now and be in touch soon.
