Happenings since last post

1 minute read time.
Well I have met with my ENT (mr gurr) twice and he is so nice - the perfect consultant! A friend told me about Andrew Sykes at Christie's in Manchester so we went to see him yesterday bit was a long drive which required lots of Eddie Stobart spotting (34 including a car transporter!). I also had to call heart FM to report the car on fire on the M6 causing tailbacks and the motorway to energy ally be closed - fortunately on the other carriageway. The oncologist I have been directed to has cancelled my new patient appointment twice and I can only think he is a bit of a Billy Bull-shitter ...... So maybe not Northampton for radiotherapy! One cancellation was the day before the appt and rescheduled for the following week. The second cancellation was two hours before the appt and rescheduled for the following week - oh it must be so easy to cancel an appointment it really isn't a life and death situation ..... Oh hang on a minute, sorry my mistake is is a life and death situation! I am now considering treatment at Mount Vernon and am trying to identify who the best person is. A little lover drive but hopefully now someone who cancels appointments twice?!?! Anyway, in terms of what we have been told by ENT and Sykes: We are not going for further surgery at this stage ..... It would be difficult to know what tissue to remove in the absence of a tumour. So it wouldn't really offer any advantage. It would also damage my facial nerve. Radiotherapy will zap any remaining little seeds of danger. Although in itself radiotherapy carries risks they are risks I can live with! It seems that the first two years post op pose the greatest risk of recurrence. This is when monitoring and further scanning would be most beneficial. I couldn't be given the all-clear before this time? And so, I am very conscious that this post is factual and doesn't cover the emotional angle of going through this at all!! I will come back and write lots more on this aspect. For now I will sign off xx

  • BronB,  I don't know where you live, talking about Manchester and Northampton, but I had my treatment radio/chemotherapy at Mount Vernon.  Obviously I wouldn't want to name names but my oncologist is based there and also and the Luton and Dunstable, Bedfordshire.  I really cannot fault the treatment I received there. Everyone was very kind and helpful.  and it was never cancelled .

Its off  junction 18 on M25 the a few miles up through Rickmansworth to Mount Vernon.

Try googling mount Vernon to see if you can find a suitable oncologist.

    Good luck

    Valerie
