'you need them more than they need you'

Less than one minute read time.

these were my husbands words overhearing my nth call to the pharmacy about a prescription they scrwed up. yes i was annoyed but this shows why we get so angry with health staff - because you know its so hard to change and nhs staff would be glad if you walked - 1 less patient on their groaning lists. in consumer fields i get used to being more powerful - i can go elsewhere . but in return we get free treatment which in my case prbably costs tens of thousands - so hands up for the american system?

I worked for the NHS as a nurse for over 20 years. Never ever once did I or anyone else i work with want to see a patient walk away. Im sorry if you have had problems with a prescription but that one problem does not mean that the NHS isnt valuable. The USA may have a different system to us but it may only be better if you can afford insurance - and even then if the insurance company agrees to continue treatment and pay for all tests scans etc.

  • Had a similar experience today. I saw the doc who revised my meds and prescribed three new drugs. My husband took the prescription into the chemist and (under my strict instructions!!!) also requested my repeat prescription for four other drugs. 'Simples'? (My Ar**)

Step one - Chemist - "Sorry, you will have to wait 20 minutes for the three new drugs to be prescribed."

Step 2 - Husband takes me home so I may lie on the floor (long story - don't ask)

Step 3 - Husband returns to chemist and again (under strict instructions) asks for the repeat prescription of drugs PLUS the prescription of the three NEW drugs. He is assured they are all in the sealed bag and returns home.

Step 4 - Whilst lying on the floor (don't ask) I unseal the said bag - guess what - repeat of four drugs but no sign of the three new drugs.

Step 5 - Steam comes out of husband's ears.

Step 6 - Husband goes back to chemist and returns with new drugs.

Step 7 - Celebrations all around!!!

We live three miles away from our chemist. Thank goodness I have someone to collect my drugs.

    Take care,

Oh Kate - did you know Boots the chemist offer a service where they collect your prescriptions from the doctors surgery - dispense them and then deliver them to your house! Very useful. Jools x
