Stress

Less than one minute read time.

I'm a carer for my mum who has been told she only has months to live.  Recently i've started feeling very sick and occasionally being sick.  I'm not ill and people keep saying its stress

Has anyone had any similar experiences? If so could you suggest ways to keep this at bay?

Sadly yes.  My husband is has a terminal lung cancer.  I often have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, especially when i wake up in the middle of the night.  My GP diagnosed sress/anxiety and prescribed me a mild anti-depressant, which has helped me to sleep better.

I think your first stop should be a chat with your GP.  My stomach felt as if it was tied in knots when a woke in the middle of the night, and my mind raced so much I couldn't get back to sleep.

My GPs have been very understanding, and arranged for me to see a counsellor which does help me to get things into perspective.

I hope you soon get some help.  we carers need to stay well and strong for our loved ones.

    Hello Beth

I really feel for you..i can relate to what you are saying aswell. I remember when i felt the same as you do now. The only food I could tolerate when any of my family were so ill was a sandwich made with white bread. not the most healthy food! but i felt sick most of the time. You could try something with ginger in its good for feelings of sickness, try eating a ginger biscuit very slowly when you feel sick or empty. Lemonade that has lost its fizz is meant to be good too.

It definitely sounds like you are stressed out and I know how awful that feels. I would try to keep to very light meals like scrambled egg and maybe some plain chicken and rice if you eat meat.

You could also try tablets for travel sickness or those wrist bands that work on pressure points, they sell them in Boots.

Some people find peppermint tea helpful and the rescue remedies that you can buy in health food shops.

I wish I could help you more Beth..I am so sorry to hear of your mums illness.

    Take care

Hi Beth, yes I have this too, I am doing my best to eat healthily because i need to stay well and fit in order to look after everyone but I often have a sick butterflies in tummy feeling. I am also on mild anti depressants as i was not sleeping and i was in a bit of a state. Sorry about your mums terminal diagnosis - i understand how you feel but do try and eat as its so important to stay well. I eat a lot of soup particularly the covent garden ones. Sending  hugs

Thank you all guys for you help and advice - i'm already on anti-depressants, but i think the next time i see the GP i will ask about the sickness.  Luckily at the moment its half term so i have a week off work so the sickness has subsided, but have a feeling that it will kick in again on monday when work kicks in again.

I will take all your advice on board - i just felt like it was an odd thing to get and that i was a bit odd for it happening.
