Tact 2 chemotherapy trial

Less than one minute read time.
Hi, Went to oncologist yesterday and even though cancer removed with breast and no lymph node involvement recommends chemo. Either standard treatment or to take part in the Tact 2 chemotherapy trial. Does anyone know anything about this trial or is on it. Have got all the literature of both, but absorbed too much info yesterday, so have not read it yet. Any comments or info greatfully received. love Pauline x

    Dear Pauline

I am not surprised you are bamboozled with literature, it is mind blowing initially trying to take in all the information and deal with the emotionally shock  being recommended chemotherapy.

I have just completed a series of Chemotherapy on the TACT2 Scheme, surprisingly, 6 months have gone really quickly.  If you take part you will be allocated to one of 4 variations.  Depending on how many cycles you are recommended.  In my case I was allocated to a 24 week course of 8 cycles.  The first 4 cycles were Epirubin given intraveneously and then Captibine (scuse spelling) for the remaining 4 cycles.  Luckily enough, the "Cap" is given orally with tablets and is a drug that is already used at Christies for other cancers so it is licensed but they are now trying it out for Breast Cancers.  I found the oral drug mad me feel happier that I was in control of taking it.  I have had side-effects but I understand that everyone reacts differently to the same drugs and some people do sail through it (not sure who they are), anyway, the staff are really good and will talk you through any doubts or fears that you have and I hope all goes well for you.  I am sure other people on the site will give you their views and reassure you. Good luck and best wishes, Woo xxxx
