Should i ask for anything??

1 minute read time.

Happy new year to all in MACLAND

I am about to start 34 sessions of radio Therapy on jan 10th am asking if anyone has had the same treatment for neck cancer and if so what they can get on prescription from the dox to help ease the passage of food down what i have been told will be a very very sore and tender throat, they have told me to use AQUEOUS CREAM FOR MY  head neck and throat area but was wondering if anyone knows of any type of treatment cream or such for a sore throat enabling to help me eat.

This site is a hive of very useful information and am sure anyone who can help me will, i am not as scared of the treatment as i thought i would be the mask was the problem and the check films but they told me i wont be in the mask for more than 15 to 20 minutes  for each treatment which i can just about cope with any longer and i begin to panic, will need some dutch courage the night before i think i have sorted my medications out and will be making an appointment to see my gp to get what i need to ease the treatment throo, so if anyone knows what will help me please feel free to let me know

Thanx

Hi Biggles (again, lol) Do not fret as the hospital will sort you out with all the medication that you will need! I had oramorph(liquid)and Voltarol(dissolvable)

Mouthcare is very important, I had Biotene mouthwash, toothpaste and an oral gel saliva replacement and something, the name of which I forget now but I will let you know when/if I remember,it put a coating on my tongue that acted as a barrier against infection, I would still take a wee trip to the GP as you cannot have enough support,eh! For help with mucus,I was given Mucodyne liquid which helped a lot! My own GP prescribed a white/thickish liquid which numbed the back of my throat to aid swallowing. Again the name has left me but I'm sure that your GP will be able to sort you out!

Are you having a PEG fitted Biggles? I had one fitted on the second week of my treatment and found it to be a blessing as everything went down the tube while I concentrated on just swallowing liquids, brill!

    Big hugs, Alison.x
