Hi biggles, I've had rads, but not in the neck, but I'm guessing the mask is to protect your face? They try not to get it anywhere it's not nessesary, and are very precise in treating the targeted area, I could be completely wrong, sorry if I am, but you should never be afraid to ask, even ring up your docs secretary, or radiology dept, they are usually quite helpful, and they know sometimes people either can't take it all in or don't like to ask

Good luck, rads usually aren't traumatic, and it's the staying still and the noise that's a nuisance rather than anything else....

  • The procedure doesn't hurt although you might have a skin reaction like sunburn. It has a cumulative effect and you will feel tired for several weeks even after the end of treatment. It helps if you keep your fluids levels up so drink lots water.

    Good luck,

    Hi My Friend,

Well I have had a course of 36 radios, All around the neck area, First the mask is made of a certain type of resin. First they will take a plaster cast of the area. They then use the cast to make your

treatment mask. by this time the radiologist will

have marked exactly where you will receive the radio.it will be marked in different colours along the area that  they need to treat. Each treatment takes

about 2/3 mins. the main side effects are tiredness

I had mine done 12 yrs ago and still lack energy. But I would rather be tired than dead, and the only other thing you have to watch for is burns. Make sure that they give you as much cream as then can so you have plenty in store and use as much as you think is necessary. Apart from that its a Doddle.

All the best and Good Luck my Friend.

Take care and be safe Sarsfield.

P.S. I still have my mask at home in the bedroom,

will come in handy for Halloween. I was supposed to take it back, but I nicked it.
