a new month

Less than one minute read time.

A new month a new challenge? can the consultants come up with another scan to try and find the source of the primary.

I also wondered over the week end this?

if they have removed the cancer by surgery, done scans biopsies etc and the scans reveal no more cancer there  then why do they need to give you treatment? anyone else got any comments on that? it does make you wonder tho why they put you through pain and suffering when the scans reveal nothing. They say its precaution against it returning, how can the cancer return if they have removed it all? Does it walk from the oncology lab and tries to find its way back to you. if it does then its bloody good especially if you have moved house in the meantime, how does it find your address, it must look you up on googlee or dial 118118 and ask for your number?

Am gonna ask that question when i get my results, "have you found it?" has it gone?

it makes you think dont it??????

    hi biggles

the true answer isn't nice but the scans aren't perfect, the scans will only show when the cancer has settled and started growing. Like all cancer growths they all start a a single cell that then multiplies, secondaries start as one or a few cells entering the blood stream from the primary that lodge somewhere and may then grow. sorry you asked. So the further treatment is to kill any little cells too small for the scans to see, they are easier to kill when they are so small. It's belt and braces biggles but for good reason, its a gamble not worth taking on scan results alone.

Hi Biggles, I had a secondary lymph node removed from my neck,2006, no treatment offered. A further secondary had to be removed around the same area of my neck, 2007! My Primary was located after a second PET Scan, treatmented given,2007!

I totally agree with T above,if you have been offered treatment, grab it!

Hi Biggles. Ihad Cup I was lucky as three months after first seeing the general oncologist a blood test came back positive for MTC(medullary thyroid cancer) There was no chemo or radiotherapy treatment after my thyroidectomy and total neck dissection as it doesnt respond well to either. Ihad a blood test every six months and an octroid scan if the calcitonin went up. I then had an operation to remove the latest growth. It just goes to show how well your immune system was working to have got rid of the original site. Hope your journey is more ups than downs.......Fran

Hi Biggles,I have a wee something to add to my reply. After the first secondary lymph node had been removed and no primary had been found, I was told that sometimes the primary is so small, the immune system can deal with it and so no treatment was needed. I was happy to hear that news but, as I wrote before,a second cancerous lymph node had been discoverd near the original one, months before my Primary had been discovered,so I am pleased that you will accept any treatment that is offered!

    God bless. Alison.x
