I just thought I would drop a line as my father was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer at the same time as your mum, 17 Feb 2009 to be precise.  The day before his 67th birthday.  After scans, we were told that it had not spread, only to the lymph nodes directly next to it.  Op was ruled out due to a slight heart condition.  Tried chemo, 1st lot triggered the heart condition and terrible pain.  Second lot of chemo, different stuff this time, immediately triggered an excrutiating pain which ended in a mini-stroke.  So that was chemo out of the question.  After various cock-ups by our hospital in Aberdeen, he had a stent fitted two weeks ago which is causing yet more pain, constant spasms which are awful to watch.  Radiotherapy supposed to start next Thursday.  Fingers crossed it may have an effect.  I just wanted to touch base with you.  No one person seems to have the same story with this cancer.  I blame my hospital a lot cos of the amount of times they have lost him in the system.  Best thing we eventually did was get a MacMillan nurse on our case to kick ass in the hospital.  Seems to be the only thing that is working.  I keep my fingers crossed for your mum and my dad that things may go right for them in the future.  There has to be something that goes right!  Keep positive and roll with the punches - that all my advice!!!!
