BCG treatment caused TB

Less than one minute read time.

After a adverse reaction to a bcg treatment for bladder cancer in 2017 I have become increasingly unwell and have spent most of 2019 in hospital. After numerous tests and biopsies my medical team have concluded that the most likely diagnosis is a rare form of TB. I am now at home and have started treatment of large doses of antibiotics and steroids. I understand that the treatment will be for 6months+. I have started this blog so that anyone who has an adverse reaction to BCG treatment can be aware of this, though rare, possibility.

Hi, I feel for you. My story is the same. Bladder cancer in spring 2017 at which time I had an adverse reaction to the BCG treatment.

i have spent 5 months of 2019 in hospital during which time due to my blood test markers I have had many scans, biopsies etc and the diagnosis of peritoneal TB has now been made.

Like you I am now 2 weeks into a treatment regime of antibiotics and steroids, but at last I can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

it is a long course of treatment so we must be patient for improvement, but so far side aeffects have been manageable. Hope this is the same for you.
