prostate radiotherapy

Less than one minute read time.

hi everybody, well to day is a good day,i have had all my scans and they tell me that the cancer has not spread,so now it is the thought of the radiotherapy that fills me with a little bit of trepidation, just finished the hormone tablets and i have had my first injection,i must say that i found talking to my family that it helped me a lot, still working hard at being a taxi driver, and today the sun is shining so a good day.

    Hi Barry,

My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer a couple of weeks ago.  Gleason 9, T3.  All scans okay and has just started hormone tablets.  Had his first injection last week.  He was a bit sick yesterday but feeling okay otherwise.  32 radiotherapy sessons to look forward to next and presumably hormone injections for some years to come.  Hope you get through your treatment okay and keep talking!

    Hi Barry

I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer about 11 months ago.  I have completed 37 radiotherapy sessions in early December and presently on the tablet form (Casodex) of hormone therapy.  The radiotheraphy was completed without any significant side effects and the actual radiotheraphy lasted a matter of minutes, though the time for each session was about 15 minutes since they had to get you in the exact same position each time.  I was able to get early morning appointments (8.30am) and this allowed me to continue working without to much hassle.  Preparation could be done at home including drinking plenty of water.  My treatment was in the Cancer Centre in Belfast and the medical care and attention from all the health professionals was really fantastic.  I hope all your treatment arrangements go well.

    Hi

I went with my Dad to see his consultant today, he'll be having hormone therapy and starts his radiotherapy in may.  it was nice to read John didnt get any significant side effects, I have been crying since i left Dad thinking of him having to cope with the side effects on top of the cancer.  Dads cancer is aggressive, i dont know what to think about that, I dont really know what it means, will it be harder to fight? does it spread faster but now  they have spotted it we can slow it down?  i didnt trust myself to ask in front of dad, i'm trying to be strong but cant stand the idea my wonderful big strong dad is ill.  sorry for rambling, jo x
