Home and Resting!

Less than one minute read time.

Hi Everyone,

My husband has returned home after 3 weeks 1 day of his stem cell transplant.  He received Donor cells on 20th October and is now resting at home.  He  has coped remarkably well so far but I know this is only the beginning and we have still got a long way to go.  Having him home is wonderful but I just wonder what is around the corner regarding infections!  I know there be will some, I am told there will, I just have to sit and wait.....

The only issues he encountered were extreme fatigue, boredom and hating being in hospital.  Those issue were more mental not physical. He was nodding off all over the place but he didnt suffer mouth ulcers or too much bowel discomfort.  It was two days of loose bowels but that was it. No sickness either.  I think he escaped the symptoms rather well.   He didnt lose weight either , despite not wanting to eat the hospital food - much to his disappointment.

Anyway, for now he is back and we await what the next few weeks will bring.

you are right he has had a lucky journey not suffering to much especially with his bowel, it will be a relief, make sure he gives himself time to recover and with a bit of luck might be ok and get no infections.

enjoy the feeling remission brings and long may it last   john

I hope he goes from strength to strength. I'm just enjoying having a husband who feels well. Not sure what the future will bring but none of us are alone. Happy Christmas,

    Hi Julia,

I have just been reading your blog and am so glad it is all going well for both of you. I too have just started ESHAP and am due my second cycle on Monday and will be having a stem cell transplant at some point. I am very interested in hearing everyone's experiences of these as it is so scary not knowing what to expect. Your blog has been very helpful to me.

    Take Care

Hi Jackie,  I have just asked for a friend request so if you require any more advice or information please feel free to private message me anytime.  It is certainly do-able and not as hard as we thought it was going to be.  My husband is 44 days post transplant now and continuing to do well.

    Lots of love,

    Julia x
