    Hi Barbara

    Just a quick note...

I'm very sorry to hear the confirmation of your diagnosis. You are right - this is an awful way to tell someone that they have a life threatening illness! Sadly from a trained professional - who should know better! I do hope the oncologist / medical team do better tomorrow. Until then I hope you can talk to someone about how you feel and of course you could ring Cancerbackup?

Another suggestion - make a list of all your questions - jot them down as you think of them. Tick them off as they are answered. If someone can be with you - get them to make a note of what is said. It's usually hard to concentrate and take everything all in at once!

    Thinking of you in prayer.

    John

i am so sorry to hear that you have lung cancer, after my own experiences of breast cancer, well it leaves me very angry at the way in which we are spoken to, i feel that they really do need to have a good hard look at the way in which they approach cancer patients, hopefully one day that will change. i really do not think nursing is a vocation in this day and age. you will have a PALs section at your hospital, it may be worth giving them a ring as well. and of course do tell your surgeon or oncologist

    lots of love

Hi - just read your blog and we are in the same boat as you - kind of - my husband and I knew he had cancer - but not the severity of it - and when we went to see the Registrar last Friday before meeting the Professor of Cancer here in Sydney - the Registrar point blank said to us "without treatment you could have a year - with treatment maybe two" - we were both in shock as we had no idea it was that bad - she then calmly said "I will leave you both for a while before I get the Professor" - so we were left in a cold sterile room with a death sentence so to speak - with no comfort whatsoever - I am not taking what she said in at all - as I at this early stage in our fight against Cancer - am positive only but just cant get her words out of my head!  Be strong and stay positive - each of us are different in our make up - strong mind - strong bodyxxxx  Good luck and please stay in touchxx Tania

They shouldn't be in the jobs they are in.  I am astounded that your hospital gave the news like this over the telephone by someone in a menial capacity.  If I were you, I would complain about this:  what happens if you had fainted?  Sometimes the NHS beggars belief!  It also seems to have taken an inordinately long time for them to have taken you seriously and to have got the results back to you.  As your stress levels have been mounting for weeks now, this hasn't done your physical health any favours.  What are they playing at?  I would ring the hospital back, or get your husband to do so, and ensure that there will be a Cancer MacMillan nurse available for you to see either before or after you have seen the oncologist.

Keep us posted, and I really hope that the hospital proves more supportive than they have been so far.  My thoughts are with you, Babs xxx Penny
