Hi all this is my 1st blog on here. Today my mum got results for her cat scan for her cancer in her oesophagus and was told that it hasn't spread which is good news but her lymph node gland things are enflammed which she is saying is normal due to where the cancer is which is near her stomach. There was talk a few weeks ago about an operation but she has now been told that there is no op and that chemo and radiotherapy works best with this type of cancer. She now has to have a Pet scan just waiting for the appointment. I have read between the lines and my mind is running away with me. Does anyone know if this means she is inoperable?? Any advice welcome - I am prepared for the worst although obviously trying to stay positive for her.

Hi there, I'm fairly new to this site aswell but have found that it's helped me a lot talking to people who are going through the same experience.

My mum sounds similar to yours in that they didn't want to operate on my mum so she has just finished a 2 wk course of radiotherapy, the cance is also in 2 of her lymph nodes but they are only small apparently.  I felt the same as you when they said they wouldn't operate but it isn't always right for people.  My mum is back home now after having a feeding peg fitted so she didn't have to worry about not being able to eat after the treatment.  We go back in a month to shee how successful the radiotherapy has been.

Has your mums PET scan come through yet?  Keep us updated, thinking of you.

    Hi babydaisy

Not everyone will have surgery sometimes it better and safer to use chemo and radio as the best option. This could be due to what tumour type it is. If your mum  has a cancer nurse specialist speak to them, They will explain things to you. You can always ask a nurse on here www.whatnow.org.uk/askanurse

It is normal for your mind to go running away with you, we all go through that phase  but remember Inoperable doesn't mean uncurable.
