Protocols for Lung Cancer

Less than one minute read time.

Hi can anyone from the Carlisle area tell me what the protocol on treating Lung cancer is. My sister said she has been told she has lung cancer but will not get an MRI for another 2 weeks I was under the impression that an MRI was a diagnostic factor in these cases. I would appreciate your input. IF it is true that she has this then 2010 has been a hell of a year for me

    Hi Teri

Im not in the Carlisle area but know it well.

There is something called Cancer Standards that they have to achieve so you could try to download a copy from the internet, the other one is NICE guidelines for lung cancer.

If i get more info i will send you it tomorrow.

Oh Teri, the words that spring to mind I can not type here mate!

Hope the initial diagnosis is wrong and that your sister gets her MRI asap.  My MRI has had to be farmed out to another hospital this month because my own hospital can't cope with the demand and they have four machines!

Hi Teri I too hope they are wrong.

Yes an MRI is a diagnostic test, maybe they want to find out if it has spread. The MRI usually covers all the body.

How did they find out? Did they do a chest xray?

I know they are always busy for scans and even an emergency scan can take upto 2 weeks.

    I hope all go's well.

Julie I don't even know for sure yet, she told my mum that they said she has cancer but she has been in hospital twice  with ? pneumonia since Bert died and  nothing was mentioned then which I find a bit hard to believe, I hope  it is not but if that is the case and she has told my mum she has it there will be trouble. /reminds me of the spammers we sometimes get on the site something just does not ring true. But saying that she said she is going for an MRI. I will just have to wait and see, strangely she has not said anything to her husband or her daughter, /just to my elderly frail mother and told her not to tell anyone
