Day 33 Bertie Bassetts Return Journey

Less than one minute read time.

Here we are at the beginning of another week and still no sign of Berts counts going up, At least though he is feeling better and managing to get up and walk round his cell. He had an infection in his line so it has been removed, they will put another in later for his next cycle of chemo which puzzles me as he was only supposed to be having 1 then his BMT. I have an appointment to discuss it with his Consultant on Tuesday so all should become clearer. They want a surgical opinion on his infected toe. They will not be able to do anything until his counts come up anyway especially his platelets.

I am not quite so tired as I was so will keep you posted

    Hello Teri

Keith is not on a transpalnt list as he is not a suitable candidate so his treatment is a drug called azicitidine which is a series of ten injections over five consecutive days once a month. In between times he has blood and platelet transfusions on an almost weekly basis.

As you say all treatments are different and is tailormade to suit each  patient. He has been in isolation a couple of times but that was because he had an infection and he is neutropaenic. We have to keep away from crowded places e.g. theatres, pubs etc and be very careful of being near people with colds, flu etc so I expect the winter is going to prove quite difficult.
