BertieBassetts Return Journey day 69

1 minute read time.

Well after yet another sleepless night we made it to the hospital for Bert's Bone Marrow results, pretty much what we expected his Leukaemia is at 5% his Myelodysplasia won't get any better without the Transplant and the Leukaemia will just come back without the Transplant.

So Bone Marrow Transplant here we come, he is booked in provisionally for the 7th Dec so it looks like another festive season in hospital in solitary confinement.

To be honest it all gets a bit more scary from now on in the Dr's have to tell you all the pitfalls and they don't sound very good. We go to Glasgow tomorrow for a pre transplant visit to remind us of what happens and where they are with the donor.

The donor comes from Germany but that is all we are told so whoever you are thank you is not enough.

Will let you all know how things go tomorrow, On Friday he has to Go to Ayr Hospital to have his Hickman line inserted and Saturday back to Crosshouse as he needs a couple of units of blood.

His counts are quite low WCC is 1 Neutrophils 0.7 platelets 47 and Hb 9.4.

Onwards and upwards

Teri, I think the donors are fantastic....especially for bone marrow as its not as easy as giving a pint of blood (which I used to do before Buttercup).

Warms the cockles to know that there are some truly good people out there........especially at this time of year.

NHS Xmas dinner - rather you than me love ;)  but the bigger picture is, Bert needs this and he's gonna get it....so its all good.

Love & Strength to you both

    Hi Teri,

It all seem to be coming together. You both have waited along time for this moment.

May you both find the strength to see this Final episode of Berts treatment come to fruition with the result you hope for, its been a very long time.

The Food in Crosshouse at Xmas I cant tell you about, even though I was in last year I wasnt able to eat.  But given the choice I wouldnt change it.

Look after eachother, and I hope you have a very Happy And Healthy New Year.

    Regards Sarsfield.XX.

    Hi Teri

Just to wish you all the very best.  Bert's counts are better than mine apart from neutrophils by the way and I am fine - still without treatment.  My platelets are only 11 and WC 1.0 HG 9.3.

Best of luck and I will be following you through.

    Kindest regards

    Christine xx

Hi Christine Good to know you still don't need treatment. They would not usually give a blood transfusion with Hb of 9.4, they usually wait until it drops below 8  but Bert can't walk as he keeps passing/getting dizzy spells out so they have decided that this might help ans he needs to get his Hickman line in before admission he will also need a pool of platelets as the won't cut him if they are below  will Start a new Blog when he is readmitted and try and keep adding to it every day so you should be able to follow how he is getting on.

Thanks also to Debs & Sarsfield

    Love Teri
