Post Robotic assisted radical prostatectomy Operation

1 minute read time.

I had my operation on the 14th of April and was discharged on the 15th of April. I woke up on the ward a little bit tired but in no pain at all, in fact, if I did not know what I was in for I would never have guessed although I did have a catheter sticking out of my penis and six sticky plasters on my stomach. After a short time on the ward, I started to get hot and clammy my blood pressure dropped to a value that caused the nurse to be concerned. It was apparently dehydration. They pumped me full of liquid and I recovered quickly. Although offered pain medication I just did not need any. Around 2.30 pm on the 15th, I was sent down to the discharge center where I picked up leg bags and night bags and 28 shots of Clexane. Clexane is to stop blood clots and has to been injected into the stomach area.

My wife picked me up from the hospital, it took 1.5hrs to get home, I was totally shattered, no pain but just a feeling of being unwell.

It is now Sunday the 18th, I am finding the catheter and bags are becoming a real issue. I am drinking a lot of water so I have to drain the leg bag every hour. The night bags are single-use only, the hospital has not supplied sufficient night bags to last me until the 26th when my catheter will be removed, hence I will have to contact my local hospital for more.

So, summing up, everywhere seems to smell of warm urine, the catheter and bags are a real pain, the next stage of the process will be catheter out bags away and the copious use of incontinence pads. The nightly injections are no problem.
