Out of hours GP service

1 minute read time.
Morning..... going to have a bit of a moan. on Thursday evening, I started with a mild headache, by 10pm the pain was unbearable, worst every migraine i ever had. Since i could not stand any kind of light to my eyes and started vomiting, my daughter called the out of hours doctors and we were told to come down immediately. Once we got there i was still vomiting, so I got to see the GP quite quickly. He did the usual checks, temp, bp throat etc, and said that all was fine. He could suggest something i could take for the migraine, but he is not going to perscribe if for me, as i need to see my own GP, (well i would have if they were open) the only thing he could sugguest, was that I took paracetomol and dhiydrocodine, together or codine on its own.. now, by this time I had taken my full quota for paracetomol and dhydrocodine for the day. I had to literally beg him for anti sickness tables... He did not want to treat me because he did not have my notes and did not know my full medical history. Then to me, what was the point of wasting mine and their time, going to the out of hours surgery, if they couldn't do anything for me....total waste of time... may aswell have gone to A&E, least they would have had access to my medical records, and may have been able to treat my symptons. just needed to get it off my chest, Anji

  • Hi Anji,

You're right - you would have been better off going to A&E. What planet are these people from? You are entitled to have a moan - I mean in this day and age surely they can use computers to access medical records. Just don't become ill out of hours and certainly not over a weekend. Hope you get some sense out of your regular GP and perhaps an emergency prescription you can keep for future use should the same thing happen again.

they are supposed to be working on a system so that records are acessible - it doesn't yet work and it £10 million over budget!!!  Bring back GP's who provide their own out of hours service I say.

Sorry you had a crap time Anjula and hope you are feeling like your head now belongs to you.

Well said, Anji. I have a few complaints to make about the care/treatment my husband received. Documenting what happened is important in case you need to make an official complaint eventually. Hope you feel better now.

    Take care

Thank you all for your comments and support.

When I am fuming with someone or something, i have to go away and count to ten (or consult my fellow... what now.... bloggers,,,lol)  to see if i am over reacting to a situation...

I was going to complain, but then wondered if i was being harsh...

I believe in saying something, when things are not right, otherwise the person/organisation doesn't know anything is wrong...

There was once a confrence going on at the Royal Armouries, with Micheal E Gerber ( The E Myth) giving a talk.  The price of a ticket was £99, but if you were aged 16-25 it was free.  So of course, i took the time to write to them and point out that they was discrimnating against everyone over 25 and accused them of Ageism...  I had a quick response, apologising, offering me free tickets, but the most important bit, was that they was going to change the wording on future advertising, as not to discriminate against anyone of a certain age...   Result!.... well for me is was.

So i suppose i will be writing that letter and all future trips will be to the A&E

    once again everyone.... Thanks

    Anji

  • Go for it Anji! I know I'm a lazy git and go off the boil most times I'm in "I'm going to write a letter" mode, but, if only to protect yourself in the future, write that letter and, as I said before, see if you can persuade your GP to give you an emergency prescription should the same thing happen again.

    Go girl!
