Thoughts from the frontline - 97

3 minute read time.

It's good news folks!

Just come back from my appointment with the lung specialist that I was referred to after my last CT scan and it's good news! If you remember they thought they found what looked like some fluid on one of my lungs at the scan so my lovely consultant referred me to the hospital's lung specialist for a consultation. Was even told that they might have to put a big needle into my ling and draw out some of the fluid - I was not looking forward to that!

Well the appointment was taking ages to come through so on Thursday last week I ask my Macmillan nurse if she could find out what was happening. On Friday I get a call saying that the consultant had been on holiday but that she would see me on Monday morning. Now we are all paranoid a bit so the sudden appointment for today made me a tad concerned about what they had actually found.

And so I drove to the hospital this morning trying to be all calm and collected and I was doing quite good. At least the cold that I had had for the last two and a half weeks had gone and I felt well. Well mostly well. :-)

Truth is I tripped over on Sunday. Now I would like to say that it was during a manly game of rugby but that would be a lie. The reality is that I fell over whilst on a dancing lesson in preparation for our wedding which is now just a few weeks away. And the fall made my arm ache and I think I banged my ribs a bit hard too. And so the walking wounded arrived at the hospital...

"Please sit over here" I was told. Away from the normal out patients waiting area and besides a room with no name on it. Spooky....

A lady came out of the room about 2 minutes later and mouthed to me "not yet" and walked off into the distant.

I waited again.

She came back and went into her office and closed the door. I sat still and waited again.

The door then opened and I was called in.

"Sorry to keep you waiting I'm the senior consultant and I need you to tell me what you have been told so far"

Gulp!

"Well" I said "at my last CT scan the notes given to my own consultant made the comment that they had found some fluid on one of my lungs and they wanted me to be referred so a specialist to see what needed doing"

"Well" this important lady consultant said...

"There has been a mistake" (pause) "But a good one" and she smiled. "I've checked again and I don't see any signs of fluid on your lungs. I have asked the senior radiologist to double check and get back to me and I'm waiting for his call now"

Gulp!

We chat about life and we chat about cancer whilst waiting for the call. I was mid way telling her the story of my dance lesson fall when her phone rings.

Gulp!

"Yep ok - I see - are you sure? Good - can you check one more time for me as i have the patient here with me now".

(pause)

(long pause)

"Good" and she puts the phone down. "You are clear I'm happy to say. We both agree that there is n o sign of fluid on the lungs and the comment on your last ct scan was incorrect. We have now checked both your last ct scans and we are totally confident that you do not have a problem with your lungs in any form"

I smile - lots :-)

And so this Monday is a good day.

Hope it is for all of you too.

Love n hugs
