What happened to Tuesday this week? I know we had one because we seemed to get a delivery of last minute xmas bits every 5 mins and I was trapped in the house to make sure that I didn't miss any and then have to venture out to some depot hidden away from normal society.
That's right, Tuesday was all about snow and hearing of the tales of people from the night before and then finding out that one of the local towns was still "closed" due to snow, jackknifed lorries and abandoned cars. But would it be a white xmas? And would I get out tomorrow for another xmas lunch down in Bristol? This was wasn't organised by us but by a company that we have a joint venture with and they were paying the bill :-)
But Tuesday was the delivery day and I was surprised that only two planned deliveries didn't arrive. Not bad considering the driving conditions out there!
But I did keep warm all day and was able to do quite a bit of work on the old computer. mostly research and then some concept design stuff so not too energetic.
Or did all that happen on Monday? I do think the brain is going and I cant even blame the antibiotics as I have now finished the course - taking 16 tablets a day was a serious pain!
Well, whatever happened on Tuesday i did without leaving the house and we had an early night before my planned Wednesday travels.
So it was up early on Wednesday to check the weather locally and for the journey to Bristol. Was there snow problems on the way? Would I get there? and more importantly, would I get back?
After about half an hour of research on the BBC website, the highways agency website and the AA it seemed that going west would be ok but I would have to watch out for fog around the A34/M4 junction.
So I set off, emergency kit, gloves, coats, duvet, walking stick etc in the car, and the only trouble I really had was getting out of our own road. Once on the main roads it was clear all the way. Although there were patches of fog and the temperature did go down to -5.5 degrees for part of the journey. just glad that my car's heater works!
And the lunch was good. And I had been good when I had chosen my menu about a month before. Smoked salmon to start, followed by mushroom and butter bean casserole and then ice cream and shortbread biscuit as pudding. Quite a healthy selection really and only a single beer as I was driving.
And then the journey back was even better than the journey going there. The rain had started and the temperature had risen to above freezing. By the time I got home it was bucketing it down and the roads were awash with running water. Fingers crossed it doesn't freeze over night!
And home to a warm real fire and a glass of warming alcohol and the evening was good. We finished off the decorating the tree and we were just about there.
And so we come to this morning, Thursday 24th September 2009. Up early as I have some work to do this morning. T has just come back from the last visit to the supermarket to get the final bits and bobs and we are ready to hunker down. Friends coming this afternoon and then 6 for Christmas dinner tomorrow at our place.
In the end it has been a very dramatic year. From the "We've found a cancerous growth in your bladder" to days of fun laughter and love in between the numerous hospital and doctor episodes. But hey, I'm still here. If they hadn't caught it when they did I wouldn't have met you lot, I probably wouldn't be here.
So it's a "Three Cheers for 2009" and a "Come on, I've got lots of living to do!"
All my love and thanks to you all out there for your support over the last six months. All our support to you and your fights against this horrible thing we have all encountered.
Merry Christmas and let's all have a great 2010
Big hugs and love
