It all started because I decided to have a nice relaxing bath when I got up early on Thursday morning. Having a bath when changing my stoma bag is the height of luxury. However, I have now discovered a problem with this that has seen to "bag leak" situations happening shortly after fitting the new bag. It seems that as the skin is still warm and possibly still a bit damp from the bath we are not getting a good seal and we are then getting a slight leak about an hour later as the body goes back to normal temperature.
Now there is in fact no such thing as a "small leak". A leak is a leak and needs to be sorted! Having pee dripping down your leg tends to become a slight problem in social or work situations!
And this is what happened yesterday when I arrived at the ward for my endoscopy. Now, it was good that I was in a hospital when this happened as they immediately helped me out with tissues and pads to "plug the hole" so that we could continue with the planned medical procedure.
As you might know they pump air into your body for an endoscopy which, due to the resultant pressure on ones internal organs adds to the leakage problem! I was so glad that I was planning on going strait home after the endoscopy and not out shopping or something!
But, it didn't matter. I was way too pleased and smiley because it was good news from the endoscopy to worry about my little leak, well a getting bigger by the minute leak! Got home, changed bag and was settled for the day.
In fact, very settled. Not sure if it was the sedation or just the relief but I fell asleep on the sofa after lunch and slept for nearly four hours! Woke up just in time to make tea...
But I'm not giving up my wonderful baths, just going to leave it for a while let the bath water cool down before I hop out and fit a new stoma bag. It's a good excuse to stay in the bath until I look like a prune any way!
Live long
