HELP & ADVICE PLEASE

Less than one minute read time.
My mum has been to christies yesterday (Wed) for her 2nd course of chemo, as we live in Crewe she has transport to pick her up, this time i was not allowed to travel with her as they cannot alway accomodate passengers. I did expect that when she arrived they would help and assist her to get to Ward 5 etc, but this was not the case, she was left at the door and expected to find her own way, since last Sept she has been unwell and mainly now cannot remember things and her legs are always swollen so she finds walking extremely difficult. When she got back last night she told me she got lost twice and was getting herself quite upset about it. Does anyone know if there is any assistance you can have when you arrive at the hospital to help with situations like these i know there are chairs but these are not much use if you are on your own etc. Andrea

Andrea,  I would suggest that you contact the chemotherapy unit and discuss this situation with them.   There should be some system in place which would make sure that your mum reaches her destination safely.   They should be able to sort this out.  It is unacceptable to let have anyone struggling and getting so upset (don't let them fob you off).  Good luck to your mum, I hope she find the treatment beneficial.

    Hi Andrea,

I attended Christes with my Dad on several occasions, as you know Christies have their own transport so each time his transport was booked I always insisted I go with him as like your Mum he had difficulty walking.....then on arrival I used to go to the main reception desk near the doors and ask for someone to wheel him to the dept he was attending as I couldnt do it..luckily I never had a problem....there are lots of volunteers at Christies who are there to do all this kind of thing and direct patients to different dept's etc...I know this as a friend of mine is a volunteer there....

When your booking Mums next transport please explain to them about Mums age mobility etc and insist on accompanying her.

I feel really saddened reading about the day your Mum had there..I really feel for her, I myself got lost in there too,it took me ages to find my way round.

Hope this has been of some help

    Take care

    Sue xx

    Hi Andrea

I just wanted to say i cannot beleive they treated your mum like that, i always found all the staff very helpful next time you should insist that you go with her. Its a shame you could not get someone to take you prehaps a reletive or friend, i suppose i was lucky in having my own transport but i like your mum had to travel their and i live not far from you as i live in kidsgrove and was first diagnosed at leighton hospital.

Any way hope your next visit goes better.

    All the best Julie
