Soft tissue Sarcoma...advice needed!!

1 minute read time.
Can anyone help.... My mum was diagnosed with a Sarcoma (Stage 4) in her thigh at christmas after a year of thinking it was a pulled muscle and having 6 months of physio!! It was removed in January but as it was in the muscle they had to remove two large muscle groups from her leg and also a main nerve. The operation was a real worry as there was a possibilty they might of amputed her leg....thankfully that didn't happen!! Things have improved loads over the last month as she has started to walk again... She started her radiotherapy on friday (33 sessions) and seemed to hit rock bottom!! She has been so positive since being diagnosed but now she seems so low...its so hard to see my mum like this! I think its the unknown that is getting to her most, she is dreading going tomorrow! Does anyone know how radiothrapy can effect you? They have said they have got to give her a really high dose for the first two weeks as it was resting on the bone! She is worried it is going to set her progress back with walking and is stressing over whether she will be able to drive again! I have never heard of this type of cancer before they say it is really rare! If anyone has any advice I would be really grateful!

    Hiya Andie

I was diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcoma, (yes it is very rare) in Feb this year.  Had my surgery in March, and at the moment I am just waiting, to do Radiotherapy,  So I cannot let you know of the side effects, but I am sure someone on here, will be able to help.  I will follow with interest, to the response you get.

If you ever need to chat, you are welcome to pm me...

    Hi AndieLou

Sorry about your mom.  It is a scary time.

I was diagnosed over two years ago and had extensive surgery and physio - it took a long time to get back to an active life.  The difficulty with sarcoma is that we all have such different stories as it is so rare.  The emotional journey is challenging too, in part because it is so rare I think and it can be very very isolating.

I find a lot of support on the Sarcoma UK web site - there is a great forum there - pain to join up to but once there fantastic.  A lot of the people on there have had radio and may be able to give advice - I didn't.  Your mum may find it helpful.  Depending on where you live there are a couple of support groups around too.

    Hi to Anjula too!

Anyway I must try and get some sleep - came on here to find more out about lung cancer as my poor old dad has just been diagnosed.

    Take care and goodluck

My mum In law was diagnosed in January, Hers is Angiosarcoma of the breast which is really nasty! we are all going through hell at the moment as i am sure you are too.

Mum's was caused by radiotherapy after breast cancer, so she can't have radiotherapy. She has had 6 months on Chemo, and has been very poorly.

I have scoured the net, and to be honest there is not too much info about, because of the rarity of the disease.

I found that The American cancer Society website was helpful, as was Sarcoma Uk.

I think that positive thinking is what you need to do now, and although the radio is very difficult, it should get a bit easier as your mum gets used to it.

Feel free to message me whenever you need to talk, you to Annie & Anjula.

    Take care everyone.
