michael, my brightness on dark days

Less than one minute read time.
Although I've been remission for 19months now, the fear of the cancer returning often comes back to bite me on the bum, big time! When it does I think of my nephew Michael and it comforts me so much! He was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer and his outlook was not good, 15years old, his parents were devastated! Michael under went an 8 hour operation were the surgeons managed to remove just over 90 percent of the tumor, he then spent weeks in intensive care very very poorly! Chemotheraphy does not work on Michael's type of cancer, his parents were told, radiotheraphy is our only hope, the doctor said! Eventually michael's parents were told to take him home, time was precious!! Fast forward to 2009, Michael is now 29 years old and a strapping big man!!! I hope that Michael's story can bring someone else some comfort too! Alison x

That is so comfort to hear, My husband is in remission now with Esphageal Cancer, it"s only been 2 weeks, but he has to finish out all his chemo, he has 4 weeks to go, but it is the truth that worries us too, its always going to be in the back of our heads, is  or isn't it going to come back, I just talked to our oncologist he told me everybody is different, I am worrying my self  too much, It"s  b/c  when I talk to people when they hear Cancer, it means death, he told me thats not true.

I am so happy for him, he made it threw. Good luck.

                     Hi,

so glad that Michael's story brought some comfort to you!

It's only natural to worry, I still do even after 19 months,it get's a wee bit easier as time goes by but never goes away!

Listen to your oncologist,he' knows what  he's talking about!

People can be so thoughtless, make me so mad but I honestly think that it's due to lack of information, they don't realise that treatment has advanced and survival rates have increased!

take care and best wishes to you both!
