sutent -day 16 - Dad collapsed through weakness/infection

Think we have posted before but not sure with this new site etc.

My husband took sutent for almost two years successfully. At first he had all the usual side effects e.g the diahorrea and tiredness etc etc. They seem to start you on the highest dosage to kill off the tumour and this usually works in that respect but its very hard to cope with the side effects. I remember christmas day four years ago and my hubby was on his first cycle. It was four o clock in the morning and nothing was goin right. Anyway to cut a long story short. Missed a couple of tabs and things settled down. Dosage was lowered slightly at next appt and side effects although still there lessened.

Thats the good thing about sutent you can control it a bit yourself, your not hooked up daily/weekly to intravenous. So hopefully if your loved one stops for a day or 2 things may settle.

Many thanks jmd. Think have made contact before but like you say new site teething probs - thought I'd done well to navigate old site and just getting to grips with being a new site member & then it gets changed (not good for me being technophobe!).

Iam like your dad, the most i can walk is aboit 20 ft. My District nurse came round to see me one day and suggested exactly everything your Dad was offered. Toilet Support Bath rail, Stair rail. and metal crutches. Within a week my occupational Nurse had these fitted with in a week. Now I dont know what I would do with out them. Have a word with your Dad and what ever he thinks tell your Mum,and see what happens. But I would recommend them but thats only my opinion.  All the best and Good Luck.

So sorry to hear what your dad is going through,you and your mum must be in a state as well.Although my friend with cancer is doing ok at the moment [we both went and had our hair done today] when my father was dying of cancer it took him so quickly my sister and I found it difficult to cope with the speed of his decline.Mum had not long been diagnosed with alzheimers so she was a in no fit state to do anything.I know nothing about the treatment your dad is having, but just wanted you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and my heart goes out to you as you try to cope with all of this.
