Groups to be deleted. Please Read.

3 minute read time.

As you know, we’ll be relaunching the site on Monday September 19. As part of our goal to improve and develop the site, we’ve been undertaking an audit of all the content on the site, including groups.

There are a number of different reasons why the groups below have made it on to the to-be-deleted list. In some cases, there is no content in the group, in other cases no members. Some of the below are duplicates of other groups and some are in a language other than English.  A few of them haven’t been added to for over 2 years. The purpose of this exercise is to make the community an easier place to navigate, and to make it more straight-forward for new and existing members to find the groups they need.

If you strongly disagree with any of our decisions, please let us know by adding your comments to the forum of that group. Or, you can email us at community@macmillan.org.uk. The deadline for any feedback is  Friday August 19th

Hello Rebecca. I have posted my disappointment on the possible future deletion of The Room on the group's forum. I have only just found that group and now wonder where the equivalent will be - if any ? Joycee xx

  • Hi Rebecca,

How can you delete 'Bladder cancer' and 'Testicular cancer' from the groups when these are viable cancers with what seems like many supporters, are you sure you are doing the right thing here, or am i alone suffering with this!

I think Rebecca should have made it clearers that these are set up under "Members Support Groups" and not "Cancer Type Groups".  Althought she has made it clear that the groups they are deleting either have no members or no content, so basically they're just empty boxes!  For example the "kick out melanoma group" has members but no content, it's just an empty box with a label on it!

    Hi Pauli,

The groups you mention are duplicates. We feel it makes more sense to have one group each for bladder cancer and testicular cancer, to reduce confusion and allow people going through similar experiences to find each other more easily.

    Thanks,

    Laura

I can understand peoples concern, but i guess its best to have a good spring clean and then we can if necessary add things back in again on the new site ??
