Right, here we go. I'm a 47 year old man who got diagnosed with cancer of the right tonsil on Dec 8th 2009. Since then I've had the obligatory scans, checks etc and are planned to go in to hospital on Jan 4th 2010 to have two lymph nodes removed from my neck and 12 (yes, count 'em!) molar teeth removed. I've then got a week in hospital, 2-3 weeks at home followed by 6weeks chemo/radiotherapy. Roll on Spring '10!
To date, I've had no pain or discomfort, the only sign is a lump on my neck but this is failry small and you wouldn't notice it unless it was pointed out. Luckily, I went to the Doctor's early in December to get the lump checked and it has snowballed from there.
Physically, I'm very fit having run the London Marathon 5 times in the last 11 years (PB 3:13) including 2009 and was doing 50-60 mile cycle rides in the Summer.
Mentally I'm bearing up well and currently enjoying the lead up to Christmas-we'll certainly have a good time-my wife and 15 year old daughter have been very supportive, as have the rest of my family and friends.
Although my treatment doesn't kick off until Jan 4th I'm planning on writing stuff on how I feel, treatment and all the other baggage that goes with this and it does help just typing this out and getting my mind and thoughts focussed-feel free to add me to your list and see how I cope.........
Take care and have a good Christmas :-)
