Thanks for the recommendations.

1 minute read time.

I’ve been keeping busy lately catching up with some recommendations.  I have to thank a lady for recently introducing me to the music of four wonderful singers.  I do hope our paths cross again one day as I want to tell you how grateful I am to you.  I’d also love to know what else is in your music collection!

So my new favourite singers are Brenton Wood, Billy Stewart, Ray Peterson and Teddy Randazzo.  Any other fans out there?

With the exception of Brenton Wood they began recording before I was born.  I’d heard of them all, maybe knew one or two songs but that was all.  I now have collected quite a bit of music by each and I can’t stop playing it.

I must also thank the same lady for recommending Bill Kenwright’s show on Radio 2.  I have just been listening to last week’s show on the iPlayer and it would seem that Mr Kenwright is another Ray Peterson fan.

I think Billy Stewart was the biggest surprise to me.  All I knew about him was that he died at an early age in a car crash and I thought he sang ballads.  I had a copy of “Sitting In The Park” and I expected the rest of his music to be equally slow and melodic.  I nearly fell off the chair in shock when I heard his version of George Gershwin’s “Summertime”.

If I had to pick a favourite out of the four then I think it has got to be Teddy Randazzo.  I knew he was a popular songwriter but I had no idea what a wonderful voice he had.  I’m playing “You Don’t Need  A Heart” while I’m writing this.

I always thought I was born about the right time musically but I’m now beginning to wish I’d been born a few years earlier so I could have enjoyed this music when it first came out.  I’m beginning to wonder what else I’ve missed out on!
