My recent purchases

1 minute read time.

Recently my purchases of music have all been new albums to me, recommendations from various people who have been helping me with my ongoing project to find something different to listen to.  However this week I acquired two albums which I know very well.  I used to own them both but they unfortunately disappeared from my collection over the passage of time.

I can’t remember where they went, probably lent to someone and never returned.  It’s lovely to finally have copies back in the collection.  It’s like being reunited with an old friend.  So it’s a big welcome back to “Super Hits” by Colin Blunstone and  “Home Thoughts From Abroad” by Clifford T Ward.  My favourite Colin Blunstone track is “Caroline Goodbye”.  From the Clifford T Ward album I like the title track best, the lyrics are amazing.

Both bring back happy memories of carefree times and the friends I used to listen to these LPS with.  I am now going to try and remember if there are any other long lost albums that I have forgotten about.  I shall listen to Johnnie Walker’s “Sounds Of The Seventies” on Radio 2 this afternoon.   He often plays tracks that suddenly jog my memory.

One such song was “Isn’t It Time?” by The Babys.  I had the 7” single years ago, somehow lost it, and completely managed to wipe from my memory how much I liked it, until I heard the song on the radio last week.  I was going to buy the album that the track came from but I ended up just getting the single download.  The rest of the LP was a bit too heavy for me.

I suspect much of the missing music disappeared when relationships broke up.  Somehow I never learnt the lesson to not break up with a boyfriend when you’d lent him some vinyl.  It did work both ways though, I have to confess that I probably acquired a few extra items for the collection by these means.  I’m not all romance and nostalgia though, some of it had a good second hand price and was sold.
