People don't know what to say so they either say daft things or tell you stories about other people they knew with cancer, who either did/did not survive. Either way we don't want to hear it, but they mean well! When I was going through my horrendous treatment which made me very ill, I had a theory that it would be better if we could be put into sleep stasis, like they do in science fiction films, and be woken up when we were all healed and better! Sort of bypass the horrible stuff. I though it was a good idea, but when I mentioned it at the RT clinic they just gave me 'that look' and smiled as if they knew the treatment had addled my brain! Well who knows in the future, maybe my idea will catch on ;-) Btw, people still say that phrase to me now 'after what you have been through, I don't know how you do it'. Usually referring to my job which is quite physical. It would be nicer if they could be more positive and say 'you look really well, good for you getting on with it', but hey ho, folks will be folks! Take care buddy xxx
