3. MDT get involved

1 minute read time.

17th April 2025, I've been informed that my case is now to be discussed at the next MDT (Multi disciplinary team) at the Churchill hospital in Oxford, which I'm pleased about as its a cancer specialist hospital. Also received a phone call to confirm that another biopsy needs to be done and is booked for 22nd April. Going for my Hat trick !

22nd April 2025, Aspirational biopsy done, took about 15 minutes from local anaesthetic going in to completion of biopsy, no pain what so ever. The only comment that the doctor said is that he suspects the next step is surgery to remove the lump. Will I miss the lump as its been there 4 months?.... will I heck !

1st May 2025. Appointment to discuss the results and the next steps. turns out is cystic cancer in one neck lymph node but still unsure of the primary location, ie; where did it come from ? So the plan is to remove this lymph node along with 3 other nodes in my neck in case of possible spread along with removal of my right tonsil (tonsillectomy) plus removal of tissue from the base of my tongue (Mucosectomy) as these are know for being the likely location of the primary source. The tonsil and tongue surgery is to be done by a robot (R2D2 where are you). Surgery date looks like it will be 3rd June 2025. Things are now moving fast in respect of information flow and appointments which is brilliant.

21st May 2025. Pre-op assessment where my height (hopefully the treatment wont shrink me), my weight and blood pressure. The blood pressure had to be done twice along with my pulse as it tends to both be low.. they say that's a sign of an athlete, pity I'm not one, but who knows.

3rd June 2025. The day of the surgery... see next blog.
