Saturday 6th sept / Sunday 7th September
Throat doesn’t seem to hurt as much this morning but that may be the morphine kicking in.
And the other good news is that I am having “movement” each day, which is a relief, so have stopped taking the laxative, but I know its there if I need it !!
Monday 8th September
Tuesday 9th September
Nothing more to report other than am still working through my spreadsheet to ensure I take all of my medicine each day, this seems to take up most of the day and hopefully its doing good and helping me on my road to recovery.
Wednesday 10th sept
Consultation meeting back at the hospital at 10:00 hrs, arrived early to make sure we got a parking space without too much problem.
Signed in and was weighed, Weight 71.75kg put a little on since last week which is good, at least I’m not losing weight.
Saw radiographer went through where I am, spoke about lack of fortisip drinks, which the dietitian will give me some to take home to help until the delivery arrives.
Went through my Meds spreadsheet, they suggest as pain gets less then maybe in a week reduce number of morphine shots per day. I mentioned that I am low on Paracetamol, which they will arrange for me to pick up more from the pharmacy before I go home.
Speech therapist discussed my swallowing and pain, she got a small yogurt to try, suggested taking aspirin mouthwash before eating and start with small yogurts before going into mash potatoes if yogurts are ok. She said to take small portions as it’s all about swallowing rather than quantity.
Prescribing more paracetamol and ibuprofen so having to wait until these are ready before going home
Next meeting in two weeks.
Thursday 11th sept
Standard day, decided to miss out second morphine shot early afternoon and then missed my 21:00 hr meds including the last morphine shot. Didn’t have a good night, woke up coughing and dry mouth / throat.
I think I need to stick to full meds for a while longer!!
Friday 12th September
Back on the spreadsheet taking meds but taking drinks in the mouth, slight stinging soreness in the roof of the mouth otherwise ok.
Had my first small yogurt to see how it goes, and it’s ok, so may continue with these.
What Have I learnt ?
As the Radiologist said, it’s not a competition to reduce the medication asap, they are there to help, so it’s ok to go back to the meds if coming off them, or some of them don’t work.
There’s always next week !
As the pain gets less try small quantities of food to eat, if this is ok Great, if not then try tomorrow!
