Saturday 30th August. My routine in the morning is now to use numbing mouthwash, give that 20 mins to work, and then dissolving paracetamol and drinking it. Struggling due to pain in mouth and throat, taking soluble paracetamol really makes both my throat and mouth sting, crushed codeine is ok, probably as its such a small quantity.
Still taking the laxatives.
Still drinking the Fortisip drinks, but even these are more painful than they have been…. Don’t like the way this is going !!
Sunday 31st August. Throat is very painful this morning so have made the decision to start using the PEG for the paracetamol and codeine as well as the fortisip drinks and see how my throat is later today, I need to decide if I carry on with the peg or not, but I think the pain will decide this for me.
My saliva is thick, waking up in the night to both spit it out as well as to have a wee, was up 4 times last night.
Monday 1st September. Mouth and throat still as sore as yesterday so continue to use the peg.
Paracetamol, codeine and fortisip drinks, all at the recommended intervals throughout the day.
To help me remember what I taken, I think a spreadsheet is needed, so I can tick off what I’ve had and so I know what’s next during the day.
Tuesday 2nd September.
The good news is… we have had a movement… at last !!
I have drawn up my spreadsheet, listed the medications and the hours in the day marking on it what I have to take and at what time, this should ensure I take everything that I should each day !
Wednesday 3rd September. Hospital consultation at 10:00, weight 70.50kg
Dietician is organising more fortisip drink for me to pick up today and also arranging for a home delivery of a months’ worth, which should be delivered in the next week.
I am told I need to have 2.5 litres of liquid in me each day combined with fortisip fibre drinks, split over standard ones and fibre drinks, so that’s 4 of each a day, 8 in total a day.
Doctors are prescribing morphine and ibuprofen which I pick up today, also a wrap for my neck to help keep it moisturised which I have to wear 24hours a day and then replace it each morning for a new one, these are called “PolyMem Non-adhesive roll”, it takes a while to fit them around my neck, it feels like a dog collar, but I’m sure I will get used to them.
So going forward it will be now be 8 bottles of fortisip, 4 lots of paracetamol, 4 lots of morphine and 3 lots of ibuprofen to taken each day from now on, more to add to the spreadsheet !!!
Thursday 4th September.
Started my full spreadsheet of medication including morphine, ibuprofen, drinks, paracetamol etc. The spreadsheet certainly helps, but it seems there is now something I have to take every couple of hours a day between 0800hrs and 2100 hrs, still it helps to keep me busy !!
Friday 5th sept
Nothing has changed, spreadsheet is working well and keeping up with the medications as I should be.
What Have I learnt ?
That you get used to using the PEG for everything, its not such a big deal.
Try to swallow something each or every other day to see if pain is as bad.
