It's almost time!

3 minute read time.

Hi everyone,

Last week, the Community team blogged about some important changes that are going to happen from Monday 27th July.

With only a few days to go before the upgrade, we wanted to reach out with a reminder about what to expect. We know how important the Online Community is to you and all our members. While this upgrade marks a new beginning for the Community, the site will still continue to be a source of comfort and support for everyone affected by cancer in the same ways it always has.

Key changes and what to expect

  • On Monday 27th July, the Community will experience some ‘downtime’. This means that the site will not be available from approximately 9am-5pm.
  • The site will then enter a ‘read only’ mode until Wednesday 29th July. This means you will be able to view and read the site, but you will not be able to log in, post, or undertake any action on the site. This is necessary to make sure that the new site can be fully updated with all your content.
  • On Wednesday 29th July, the Online Community will be inaccessible from approximately 9am-4pm.
  • We will send you a notification when the new site is live. We are expecting this to be around 4pm on Wednesday 29th July.
  • When the new site is live, you will be prompted to reset your password for security purposes. This is just to make sure the new site and everyone’s accounts are fully secure and safe. Nothing else will change about your Community account, and all your content will be the same.
  • Your groups will be the same, and all your content will be visible on the new site.
  • New members will now be able to create an account and log in using a social media account. Macmillan won’t have access to your social media account, this just means you don’t need to sign up using an email address and password.
  • We appreciate that the Community is an important source of support for many members. If you need to talk to someone while the Online Community platform isn’t available, please remember the Support Line is here for you. You can contact the Support Line over email, live webchat or call 0808 808 00 00 7 days a week between 8am-8pm.

What will the new site look like?

The new site will look and feel different, but it will work in the same way as the current Online Community. This is what the new homepage will look like:

Your groups will look like this, and you’ll still be able to post discussions and reply as normal:

We will have an updated Help section available on the new site. This will include frequently asked questions (FAQ), and step-by-step guides on how to use the Online Community. The Community team will also be available to help at community@macmillan.org.uk.

Why is this important?

The Community is a fantastic source of comfort and support for those affected by cancer. We know how invaluable it is for our members to be able to talk to others who understand. It’s important that our members are able to continue to give and receive support in the easiest, and simplest way possible. This upgrade aims to resolve a lot of technical glitches, as well as improve your experience of using the site.

Feedback

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you for supporting each other. Without you, the Community wouldn’t be what it is today and this upgrade would not be possible. Thank you!

We would love to hear from you, our members, about these changes. Whether you’d like to let us know about something you like, need a bit of help using the site, or you don’t like some of the changes we’ve made, we’d love to hear from you. You can send us your feedback by emailing us directly on community@macmillan.org.uk or you can fill in this form here.

Only 5 days to go!

Best wishes,

Macmillan Community Team
