"Indulge in a favourite past-time, watch boxsets, clean the house..." - Wellbeing Wednesdays: May

"Wellbeing Wednesday - May" written over a picture of a person standing alone, at the edge of a pier, amidst a beautiful sunset.

June’s here, and with it the Great British Summer...there’s still time for it to arrive, it's just over a week ‘til Summer officially begins.

Here's something to brighten your day, our favourite wellbeing tips from you, our members, over the past month…

“We all deal with this horrible situation in our own ways, but we all do understand. But I think for all of us the term taking life one hour at a time is never truer than in the first few weeks.”

“I was able to make a list of my worries, get that list down to bullet points and to set aside just a 10-minute period each day for looking at those worries, and the rest of the time just acknowledging them and putting them aside for that time.”

“Googling is a definite no-no, as that's just guaranteed to turn you into a quivering jelly…”

Niloc

“I've just popped in on this discussion to ask if you are aware of Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors? They have been specially trained by Macmillan and Boots on how to look good after cancer treatment. Have a look at the link above and read more about it and find out if there is branch near to you that you could visit for advice.”

“But what might help too is to say; be really kind to yourself. Let people you know and love, know how you are feeling. And if you can, let them listen and support you.”

“Distract Yourself – Find ways to take your mind off the upcoming scan, at least for a while. Dig into a novel or binge watch a series that completely engrosses you. Turn up your favourite music and tackle a chore you’ve been putting off for too long. Hang out with that one friend who has a gift for making you guffaw. Schedule some time to enjoy your favourite hobby without interruption. If you have trouble letting go, imagine setting your worries in a “to do later” box and tell yourself you can pick them up when you’re done.”

“I take regular exercise like walking and swimming. I got into baking and cooking. I do relaxation and meditation classes. I see a Counsellor on a weekly basis. Confiding in family and friends can also help. This site is also great, and I have had lots of good advice when I have needed it.”

FairRose

“Doing something that relaxes you helps too just before bed…Plus, don't fight the tiredness, it sounds simple, but you be surprised how many of us actually does that for many reasons.”

Gbear

“Staying off Google is probably my best bit of advice as the information you'll find is generally out of date plus people only post the scariest stories not when they discovered that their mole was benign. If you want to do any research, then stay on sites like this one or Cancer Research UK. While you're waiting for your results, which can take up to 4 weeks to come back, try to find some things to help distract yourself. Indulge a favourite past-time, watch boxsets, clean the house from top to bottom (mine needs doing if yours is already done), etc. I think you get the general idea!”
