19th Jan 2010 Bertiebassett

1 minute read time.

I have not been on for a while as Bert is not great so I  have been spending all my time time with him

I did manage to have lunch with Claire but it was brief as she had to go back to work. The Consultant does not think I have Arthritis which is good only Bursitis which is just as painful but he injected my hip and I should hopefully be pain free tomorrow.  He took loads of blood and an x-ray and I will get the result in 6 weeks.

Bert was very agitated when I was out the Marie Curie nurse sat and talked to him for 6 hours trying to keep him calm but said he is very confused. It is good to have this validated as so far only me and the kids have seen it.

Sometimes I go along with whatever he says other times I tell him but it really is a judgement call and sometimes it backfires on me and he gets upset.

Mac nurse wanted to take him into Hospice for a few days to get a complete picture of how he is, but he won't go no matter how many time I tell him it is for respite he said he is not going in as he will die in there. Quite honestly I don't think they would get a picture of how he is anyway as he will either become more agitated and have more panic attacks or he will withdraw into himself.

He has developed double vision and they are worried about Leukaemia having spread to his brain we have the clinic on Thursday so hopefully we wil get some sort of indication then.

I suspect that if it has they will do nothing now anyway, but he can't read or watch TV which is upsetting him.

Marie Curie nurses still coming in 2 nights a week to let me sleep that makes a huge difference.

Hoping everyone is taking care of each other

Love Teri

Really sorry that you and Bertie are having such a hard time. I truly hope that you can work your way through all of it. If he is so difficult about help - and that is understandable it doesn't stop you getting the support that you need,

    love

    Hi Teri

So sorry to hear that you and Bert are having such a hard time. Thank goodness you have some support to enable you to recharge your batteries a few days a week. Wishing you, Bert and your children lots of strength to get through this difficult time.

Hello Terri - your hip sounds blinking painful ! I hope the injection works and it eases up for you - to have that on top of the lack of sleep through caring for Bert must be so hard. I'm pleased you are getting some respite to let you sleep but honestly 2 nights out of seven isnt much really your poor thing. Lets hope someone can persuade Bert that he needs a spell in the hospice to adjust his meds so he is more like himself. I have nurse confused patients and know how dificult it can be. Sending you love and strength, Jools xxxxxxx
