I had the forehead flap nose reconstruction operation on 1st May. Although I received a lot of information during the slow Mohs surgery, the plastic surgery unit's information giving has been a bit lacking. I went for a check up a week after my forehead flap surgery and told them I would be starting a new job a week and a half after my surgery and was that OK. They said as long as I was sensible then it was OK. First day at work went well and then on the following day I felt so ill my new employers had to get me a taxi home. I phoned the hospital and they said I probably went to work too quickly! I then had to go to my GP and he signed me off for another week. The thing is I feel worse now than I did in the week after my surgery. The wound close to my eye is seeping again and I have had splitting headaches and feel really weak with no energy. The only thing the hospital said to look out for is if my nose goes very white and pearly looking. Has anyone been given advice on general recovery period and what to look out for in an infection. I'm now worried how I will feel after the second stage op (cutting of the pedicle) and how long I will need off work. Any advice on timelines of recovery and any other information I could access would be gratefully received. Jackie

Hi Shelly,
Sorry not to have responded to your post earlier... please be assured that you are not alone in anyway whatsoever and that we have all experienced varying levels of anxiety many times along this journey.
If you read my earliest posts on this thread you will learn that I too was horribly scared of this whole process and truly questioned whether I would be able to cope with the surgeries that follow... the truth is that the team you have around you will be amazing and provide you with  excellent care throughout... additionally the support you receive from people on this forum is incredible... I got through some really worrying and potentially dark times by reading other people posts and replies to mine.
The surgery itself isn’t nearly as painful as you imagine it will be although I’m not going to pretend it isn’t scary at first.  I had MOHS surgery in early December and two days later went in for my first stage reconstruction surgery to be told on the day I’d require a forehead skin flap procedure for nasal reconstruction.  It was a bit of a shock to me and my partner by the hospital staff were fantastic and I was home two days later.  Since then I’ve had my second stage surgery to thin my skin graft out in early February and two weeks ago had my throes and final stage surgery to remove the pedicle.. all in all it’s taken about 3 months to get to where I am now.. cancer free and well on the road to recovery... it’s so true what everyone says.. you will be amazed how much progress you make and how much support is out there.
A year does seem a long time and I’m not going to pretend I don’t battle with that thought too.. my nose is getting better by the day but I still have my moments too.. try not to be too hard on yourself and know that it really is ok to get anxious and tearful at times.. please use this forum to discuss your concerns with those of us who are going through the same and I am certain you will be writing on this forun, as I am today, in a couple of months offering words of encouragement to someone else.
Best wishes

Hi Makie
Thankyou for your reply.
I'm back at the hospital next week to discuss exactly what he plans to do as I didn't take it all in after he mentioned flap from forehead or cheek.
I am still very anxious but hope I get a more clear picture.
Kind regards
Shelly
