My OH diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer In April,  already spread to bones and nodes.  No Gleason score yet.  PSA 70. at diagnosis  T3/4 N1b  Not sure what any of this means.  Had first hormone injection and tomorrow goes for Greenlight laser surgery with a view to dispensing with catheter and obtaining tissue for biopsy.  Just got first appointment with oncologist for 21st July which seems a really long way off.  I feel we're unprepared to make decision regarding future treatment when it's offered but he seems reluctant.  He does want treatment, so it's not that, but I'm feeling rather overwhelmed.

  • Hi Paul - seems like we are in similar condition as well. Would like to chat if possible via a Private Message. Thank you!

  • Hi Lyon my OH started HT at about your father’s time. 7 years later he is still taking it even though all other treatment has stopped. This keeps testosterone levels low as possible to stop pesky cancer having its feed of choice. He had radiation for pain and it worked well for years. How long HT works , that is the unknown depends on the individual.

  • There's been a bit of a mix up here, not sure how.  I think you're replying to member03, organised chaos who is concerned about her father.  I'm very new here because my husband has recently been diagnosed.  I'm glad you replied, because I wouldn't have been able to offer an opinion, but I just hope your advice has reached the right person.

Glad to hear your OH's treatment seems to be keeping this at bay and wish you all the best.

    Lyon x

  • I'm so sorry to read about your dad, but as I'm new to this (my husband having being diagnosed a couple of months ago, I can't offer any advice regarding treatment.  I

There are loads of people on here who will have knowledge and experience and hopefully they will be able to help you.  I do wish you and your father all the very best for the future

  • Hi Member03

Sorry I missed your  post - I am also so sorry to hear about your dad's situation. Hormone therapy can be effective for a number of years in reducing testosterone and stopping the cancer cells from growing. Radiotherapy kills them off.

You would need to ask the oncologist for a prognosis. - I hope this helps.

    Kind Regards

    Brian.
