Hi all
When LH spoke to the consultant on the phone and was told his MRI results she said that he will 'probably' have a PET scan but didn't say when. He is booked in for a biopsy in 2 weeks but there has been no further mention of a PET scan. What will influence whether he has this scanner not? Is it the biopsy? So will that mean a further delay in a decision abut treatment? His mpMRI showed a large lesion in the his prostate in the transition zone but no node enlargement and his MRI bone arrow scan was normal, and they didn't think that this it had breached the capsule.
Are they worried because of his PSA result (57)? I have read that tumours in the TZ zone tend to produce more PSA though not necessarily any more aggressive than those other zones.
I think we both want to get on and make a decision about treatment, especially because his symptoms are really getting him down
Also, if he should be offered/opt for surgery would they give him HT while he waits for it and would it relieve some of his symptoms?
Thank you all once again for listening to my ramblings!
Hello Dogs4me
As we are all different and we all react to treatment as individuals and we have our partners to consider it's a very personal life changing choice.
To get you started here's three links for you:
Prostatectomy-for-prostate-cancer
Radiotherapy-for-prostate-cancer / /Hormonal-therapy-for-prostate-cancer
In addition to this here's the NICE guide which tells your team of all the facts you should be aware of making your choice.
NICE /Recommendations / Prostate Cancer
Feel free to ask any questions. It's a big decision.
I went down the HT/RT route - I had other issues on my journey (nearly dying being one!!) you can read my journey by clicking on my name or avatar.
Best wishes - Brian.
