Has anyone taken Cialis/Tadalafil?  If so, how did you get on, and did you have side effects?

I ask because I am beginning to experience reduced flow due to RT, and may require medication as my RT progresses.  I am receiving a higher dose per fraction of 6.1 GY, which is almost 3 times higher than the standard dose.  I have 3 fractions of the 7 remaining, for next week.

Tamsulosin or similar is the usual NHS drug(s) of choice, but unfortunately, a side effect is floppy iris which can significantly affect those having cataract surgery, which I will be having fairly soon.  Apparently, the effect of just one tablet can last for months.

After research I have discovered that Tadalafil is just as effective for LUTS and hyperplasia, but without this floppy iris side effect.

I would be interested in other possible successful strategies for reduced flow due to RT.

  • Hi Brian,

I don’t think it’s due to swelling as the consultant mentioned that the whole areas of the prostate and around it  was now nuked into a fibrous mass ( he didn’t say the word nuked, something more technical) because partner had a large area covered I imagine that it could be scar and fibrous matter tightening? . Obviously I have no real idea. In a previous appointment we had a similar conversation about tightening and pulling of the testicles ( sorry for the eye watering image ) and this is a common side effect of HT. Another eyebrow raising conversation. I think all of this will be in our next chat when we go in. Slight smile

  • Hi Dedalus,

Thank you for bringing up this excellent topic. The Tadalafil sounds like an option then. I agree with you with the “if it ain’t broke ……..”  There’s no point in any procedure until it’s necessary . I like to be going in to the consultations with a nice fat list of what ifs

  • It's not a problem, it's just me trying to think of all the possibilities as we are all on a different journey.

tightening and pulling of the testicles ( sorry for the eye watering image ) and this is a common side effect of HT.

No need for the apologies - it's reality. I have been on HT for 28 months now. Mine have shrunk (to say the least) and the old penis now resembles a broken little finger - but - as I keep saying I am on a "curative pathway" and it's much better than the alternative !!

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Millibob,

I love this forum. We do discuss some hilarious things .

  • It's life as it is - a few months ago I was advising a Community member's wife regarding his long term catheter and went into the foll details of how to properly clean it where it enters the penis!!

I received a lovely private message from the wife concerned - she expressed her shock that she never thought she would be discussing such intimate things with a "strange man" !!Rofl.

The one word we all lose on this journey - DIGNITY..

There are at least 3 amusing situations I have left out of my profile, but when people ask in the pub how it's gone/going and I recall them they do raise both shock and a laugh!!

    Kind regards - Brian.

  • Hi L iv'e had a TURP which if you needed  one would have probably had it by now and urethral dilation after a cystoscopy for PCa in urethra showed strictures, A quick  and simple procedure, less than a hour with a catheter in for a few days afterwards, though if the blockage returns dilation will need to be done again and probably many times though you can do it yourself
