My very good friend had surgery 6 weeks ago and keeps losing more weight - I think possibly up to 4 stone now. He's supposed to be putting it on so that he's strong for chemo. However he can't seem to hold anything down. He was eating a little bit and all was fine a couple of weeks ago - now he's trying to eat more and ends up vomiting - even when he hasn't eaten. Is this usual? Could there be a problem? Also any handy hints on what he should be eating to help him get stronger? Thank you in advance.
Yes, I was put on it even before diagnosis as they must've suspected the cancer. I was being treated for pancreatitis before then and the doctor was pushing for me to go on it for that. Once your pancreas fails or is removed it loses that function so food is just going through with very little absorption.
Need to be taking Creon after my operation I couldn't eat anything with out Creon.also when I asked consultant what's best to eat was told anything.ive had 6month cemo and 12months on , if I forget to take Creon with food i am doubled up in pain.
Best of luck peter
Well said about medical staff and how understand consultant secretary are and helpful.
It didn't affect want happened to my husband in the end, of course, but the fact that he didn't take Creon for six weeks or so probably wasn't helpful. It seems that where he had surgery (and I wont mention where) they don't automatically give Creon.

That's interesting Veema - I wonder why his surgeon wouild want to see how he goes?! Someone mentioned the oncologist in a this thread (can't look it up while I'm typing sorry). Hopefully the oncologist will put him on it if his surgeon hasn't done so in the meantime.
Thank you Oldbone (Peter). I hope that my friend gets Creon recommended to him. I wonder why his surgeon was reluctant - he must have had his reasons.

As I say I'm not a medic. i don't think any harm has been done because it's not a drug. It works in the moment to help you digest food. If you need Creon you take it with your meals to help digestion. What is likely to have happened as Veema said is your friend won't be getting the nutrients he needs from food. I'm sure as soon as he goes on to Creon he will digest better and put on weight.
