Hello,
I'm at a bit of a loss atm, I've had photos taken for possible skin cancer on the top of my ear, I was initially told last year it was a seborrhoeic keratosis however it started to bleed, scab and itch, I had the photos done yesterday and last night the scab fell off, it still doesn't look right underneath so I'm really stressed atm.
I know they said it can be 2 weeks to get the results but I'm wondering if anyone has had them back sooner?
The wait is making me ill :(
Hello Shellbobeb
I am sorry that your are waiting for some results and that you are feeling really anxious and stressed. This is really understandable.
I hope that you do not have to wait too much longer. In the meantime, why not give the Support Line a call and talk things through. They are there from 8am-8pm daily.
Jane
Hi Shellbobeb9286 and a very warm welcome to our group
Having photos taken, known as an AI referral, rather than having a face-to-face appointment to see a dermatologist to decide whether an excision biopsy needs to be done or not is quite new and I think only a few people have had this done in this group so far.
I don't know what the average wait for getting these results is but I'm tagging Kwerty04493a and B821565d520 into my reply to you as they are the most recent people to have this form of appointment. Hopefully they'll pop on and tell you how long they had to wait.
It's natural to feel anxious when waiting for results but if it's affecting your daily life to the extent that it's making you ill then please do go and have a chat with your GP.
I'll be keeping everything crossed for you.
Anne
Thankyou both for your replies, I have just received a letter to say that the photos showed no serious cancer but they need to get me in for face to face appointment to discuss treatment, does this mean that it's not melanoma but could still be skin cancer? Heads all over the place and still non the wiser, just relieved it says non serious
As the letter said the
photos showed no serious cancer
it does sound like it probably isn't melanoma. Like you say though, it's still a worrying time for you but hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your face-to-face appointment to find out what you're dealing with.
Does the letter include a contact name and number for a skin cancer nurse specialist (SCNS)? If so you could give them a call and they should be able to tell you what they believe the area that's been photographed to be.
If there are no direct contact details on the letter, you could phone the hospital and ask to speak to the consultant's secretary who should be able to put you in contact with a SCNS.
Thankyou, i will have a proper read of it now, im currently at work so it took me by surprise, just came across it on my nhs app
