Hi,
My husband finished 4 rounds of carboplatin 6 weeks ago but a recent CT scan shown that his tumours ( stage 4 NSCLC ) have grown slightly . He now has been given the option of starting atezolizumab or Docetaxel. He would prefer the immunotherapy and I wondered if other have experience of this drug and how they have tolerated it and if it has been effective. Thank you x

Hi Derek
Good to hear everything is going ok, not sure about meet up with pharmacist, on my oncology day case ward when I am having my treatment there is a clinical pharmacist (that’s what is says on his name badge) and he is often around seeing patients but so far I haven’t spoken with him so not sure what is role is
i had my 4th treatment 2 weeks ago, had my ct last week so getting nervous now as in clinic next week to discuss results, since my 4th treatment though I have experienced diarrhoea on a off these last 2 weeks, been particularly bad today though my oncologist did say side effects can get more severe after 3-4 treatments so perhaps they are only just kicking in
Hope everything keeps going well
Margaret

Had my first treatment today. Was sold by the oncologist on the success rate and lack of aftereffects ! Chemo nurse also said no side effects- we shall sèe. No cures or remedies handed to me at the end of the session so fingers crossed.
hope it is as kind to you as it is to me. had no side effects yet myself

Hi
I’ve been reading this blog with with great interest. My husband is due his 4th treatment of Tecentriq on Friday this week. He was saying he never felt better up to the third treatment but appears to have slowed down a lot to me. His thinking is slower as well as his movement. Does anyone know how long it takes for the drug to actually start working ie when does your immune system start to alter?
I think this is his last treatment option after being diagnosed with nsclc 4 years ago. Any updates from those of you on this drug would be much appreciated.
Heartfelt love to all of you
Babs
Hi Babs, I am on the same immunotherapy but have only had 2 treatments. I have found that the side effects are not instant and that overwhelming fatigue (which can effect your thinking ) is definitely due to the treatment .I had no side effects until 2 weeks after 1st treatment then 2 days of zombie . Second treatment is only a week ago but have had 1 day zombie so far. It doesn't sound as though he is suffering too much and if he is feeling good I wouldn't worry. Not sure how long it takes for the immunotherapy to start working but have assumed it was from day one .

Thanks for your reply. I will be thinking of you as I follow my husband’s progress and hope for a positive outcome. It’s good to know that the fatigue is likely due to the treatment. My husband has had some confused moments too. I just hope it works and gives us some opportunities to enjoy life together a bit longer.
Good luck with your continued treatment and thanks for sharing. It always helps to know we are not alone, even though it feels like that sometimes.

Hi Babs
I’m on this too, have No 7 treatment on Thursday, before I started treatment my oncologist did say two things to me, 1st thing that side effects will usually kick in more after 3 or 4th treatment and he was right as I’ve had more side effects with last couple of treatments, I’ve slowed down a lot compared to what I could do a few months ago, the tiredness and fatigue can just suddenly hit me at any time plus aches and joint pains all over but to be honest I'm never sure whether it is side effects or the cancer itself
2nd thing was not to be disappointed after 1st scan if results weren’t good as sometimes it can show growth, again he was right as I had further growth shown on scan. I will be having another scan after this weeks treatment and this will tell if the growth has stableized, so a few more weeks to wait see if it’s working or not
With this treatment being so new there is only trial data to go on, with treatments which have been out for a few years or more they know so much more about them, will your husband be having his 1st scan after no 4 treatment, always a relief when 1st scan out the way, hope results will show good news for your husband
