I have been diagnosed with a secondary cancer in my neck (not Lymph) and they can't find the primary. The consultant is keen to operate on me within weeks with a significant neck dissection from ear to throat to remove the secondary and any other potential target areas…and possibly find the primary. I have had CT, biopsy and other scans.
Given the well documented many/potential side effects (short and long term) and the fact that I currently feel fine, I am faced with a dilemma as to whether to have this surgery or not. I have an MRI coming up to see if this provides any more information. Chemo/radiation is not (apparently) an option for the secondary.
I would welcome any insights and experiences.
Immunotherapy has the potential to be a very powerful tool in dealing with all cancers. The working theory is that over the years my immune system naturally battled the cancer, sometimes losing and sometimes decisively winning (hence the appearance and then non-appearance). It seems like eventually the cancer won out! But I am good now
