1st day  chemo-Cisplatin- 6 days radiotherapy. So far no real issues- its all psychological and im killing myself with anxiety. My partner is a godsend and supportive like i cant believe. How do people go through this on their own!!

Biggest concern for me is weight loss ( 20llb) in 8 weeks and i simply cant find an appetite and am struggling to eat the smallest amounts.

  • Hi keep your eye on it as in recovery you need to maintain weight as that aids recovery. If dietician is aware keep reminding them I had NG  tube at start of week 4 it was my lifesaver. Appetite takes some getting back even in recovery so I took attitude food is fuel and that stood me well I made an uneventful recovery remember as well over Christmas you won’t have instant access to your team so make sure you’ve adequate pain relief and if you’ve started opiates you’ll need laxido or novice as constipation is the last thing you want. Fingers for you.

  • can you drink? are you taking in fluids alright? TBH, you need to get onto your team ASAP.. ring your CNS, explain what's happening.. you definitely don't want a stint in hospital with dehydration/malnutrition.. things can take a turn really quickly if you're not careful..

  • Hi Jimbo, it's the chemo and RT it suppresses your appetite, but you do need to have plenty of water and nutrition, to get you through the treatment and recovery. Tell the dietician when you see them, or better still give them a call, you need to get this sorted.
