Hi All,
Met my Oncologist for the first time today. I think in about 3 weeks l shall be starting 6 weeks of radiotherapy and 5 weeks of chemotherapy. I did say l was surprised l was having so many weeks of chemotherapy and he said it will be in smaller doses because if he gives me 2 not everyone makes the last chemo session???
We discussed Pegs and nasal tubes and he said there's always a delay when having a Peg because they can't always be fitted quickly. I know many of you do say a Peg is better.
Will need some advice in the following weeks. Think l'm scared stiff. I did say to him which is worse the operation l had or this journey l'm about to go on and his answer was "it's different"!

Yes the drink is just to get you to swallow it. When you have your mask on during treatment it squashed down ok. There is adjustment in the table under the mask to make you more comfortable if it’s needed. Hazel is right. The radiographers can see you and will stop if needed. I never had longer than 10 minutes from being clipped down to being unclipped. The room is large and airy so not claustrophobic.

Hi Hazel,
I will take happy music. The Beach Boys make me want to sing and dance, Abba sounds good but I want some upbeat music. Got a George Ezra CD which I love to listen to but I definitely don't want anything melancholy. I want to lie in the mask with me feet tapping

I always worry about stuff but when I am there I am fine. Think it's just the mind giving you nightmares
The staff at the hospital I am at are absolutely wonderful. They go out of their way to make your stay and treatment good and comfortable.
Since my operation I have developed a stupid cough. I am one of those unfortunate people who develop silly persistent coughs. I am now taking honey, lemon and paracetamol before bed, put my head over steamy water with a bit of Vick in and in the day take a bit of cough medicine.
Fingers crossed it will go.

Hi Val, Hang in there and you'll get through it. I think you've already gone through so much you must be stronger than you know. Think we all are when the .... really hits the fan, so to speak. NG tubes are not that bad really. I had mine passed after I'd completed treatment, before I was discharged home as I really was struggling to eat anything. Lived on the overnight feeds 1500Cal for quite a while plus the disgusting ensure compact drinks and mainly custard & liquidised soup. I went out shopping to the local supermarket with the tube in and most people didn't bat an eyelid.
The change in taste, due to the radio, dosen't help the appetite at all though.
I don't know whether these work but recently my daughter asked me if I had heard of "Frozen Miracle Berries" The answer, No. I looked them up and apparently they are a fruit which after eating temporarily change the ???? shape of the taste buds so that sour/bitter foods, taste sweet. Everything tastes nice. Effects are temporary, for about 30 mins. I did also read that they can help with the taste changes that accompany radiotherapy making things taste better. Anything that helps to keep you eating must be a good thing. Everything tasted like cardboard or even wallpaper paste to me but the taste does come back eventually.
It may be worth looking them up. Not sure if they do actually work but think I would have tried them if I'd known about them at the time.
I'm not recommending them but just wondered if they may help and if anyone else has heard of them or even tried them.
And as for the teeth you'll be surprised just what you can eat with plenty of sauces, gravies and a drink to hand. I find toast actually easier to eat than bread. The toast crumbles to tiny pieces which go down with a drink. The bread congeals to a large sticky lump which can be difficult to swallow. The benefits of dainty little mouthfuls is not to be overstated.
Take care & keep strong. X
wow. I’m going to try those
Thanks never ever heard of them
EDIT
jyst watched a YouTube video of four guys trying these. They really work on sour stuff like apples and lemons. Really really expensive.
