Hi all. I've recently been diagnosed  with breast cancer.  I'm getting my final treatment plan tomorrow  and am beside myself with worry as it might be a mastectomy  and chemo. I'm glad to be here.x

  • I see. Perhaps that's what I'll get tomorrow.  It's really superficial  but I hate the idea of hair loss with chemo . I'm praying it won't come to that. (Not that I've actually  got much hair to start with!

    ..

    .

  • Full mxt and a reduction on my left side . This is due to having large breast ( always hated the size of them ) and after reduction will be able to wear a smaller prosthesis.

  • Me too . But will tackle that if/when it comes . Everyone knows your business if hair loss occurs .

  • Totally!! I'm thinking about wigs already but not of the cheap  nylon  type. Talk about projecting!lol.

  • Are you still managing  to work through all this? I got signed off so not really doing much. I might go back once I know exactly  what's going to happen tomorrow. X

  • Work is a godsend . Really busy job . But keeps my mind occupied . Keeps me sane , we’ll sort of .
    Stops me overthinking .

  • That's brilliant! I got totally  freaked out and went home a few weeks ago. I'd love to go back once I know what's going to happen especially  if the operation  I'd going to be weeks away.x

  • Hi

    how did it go today.

was thinking about you earlier .

  • Hi daisy, thanks so much. I finally  got the outcome. The rest of the lumps are fibrous  tissue so I only have the one main lump thank goodness. They did all my pre op stuff today. Blood tests, ecg etc. They said I will need to have a wide excision  cut but they don't know yet as I'm still very bruised and swollen due to the biopsies so it might be a different  kind of circular cut on the day. My sentinel  lymph node came back negative, but its only 80% accurate  so they will be removing this and other lymph nodes plus the tissue surrounding the main tumour to send off and test. If any of the lymph nodes are positive,it's chemo.:-( but there's only a 20% or 1 in 5 chance they will be so fingers crossed. I'm so relieved  they didn't say mastectomy  although they did offer the option but this doesn't make much difference to the possible recurrence  rate. I will get a date for the operation end of next week hopefully.  My sick note for work runs out on 13th November.  I'm not sure if I should just stay off for the whole thing as I'm still not quite with  it mentally, plus I may even have had the operation by then. I will get radiotherapy  4-6 weeks after the operation  which could be one week or for 3 weeks. I will know nearer  the time. I feel a bit more normal  now I have some certainty  but am not looking  forward to the general anesthetic  even though I had it once before. I spoke to my manager who said I would need to get a fit note to.confirm I'm OK to return to work  as well but there will be appts coming up with the surgeon  etc so I really don't know what to do. Apparently  the recovery time isn't that long for a lumpectomy. I'm hoping that the lymph nodes will come back negative but I won't know until.about 2 weeks after the op. Its alot to take in. They've given me some booklets and stuff to read. I feel relieved  but it's all quite overwhelming  isn't it. I certainly  don't want to go back to work if my heads still all over the place. I will see how I feel nearer the time.x how are you getting  on?Natx

  • That’s good news , well as good as it can be under the circumstances. Things seem to be moving now and hopefully you will get a date soon

I am on half term so a lovely long walk with hubby and the dog and then a pub lunch .

Topped the evening off with a visit from my friend who has the “t shirt” so to speak .

If you feel better staying off then do so. I personally just like to keep myself busy with work . (Saddo)

I will finish on the 24th as I need a covid test pre op.

Hope you feel a little more Positive xx
