Where to begin... I suppose one never expects one would need to join a cancer support group until it happens.  I have had my mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy on Thursday but the radiologist is very sure it is cancer. She was just incredible. Straightforward and positive. Early stage and non life threatening are the words she used but I still feel numb and scared at times.

Going to see the general surgeon on Wednesday as well as get my biopsy results. I am preparing for it though as I will obviously be extremely relieved if it is benign but not very hopeful for that.

I am just thankful for the gift of the NHS and places like this where we can share and help carry the burden together.

  • . Hello and welcome .  It's a stressful time but once you get your treatment plan you 3ill feel better & surprisingly calm.  If you click on my name you'll see my diagnosis back in June 2015.

Can you take someone with you to results as it's always good to have a second pair of ears x

Thank you SO much for your reply. I have been surprisingly calm but at night is when it hits me. I had a lovely radiographer who, when I asked her, asked me if I wanted her to be frank with me and I said YES. She said she was sure it is cancer but it is non life threatening and early stage. I caught it early. I only felt the big lump on the 1st of April! Obviously it is not as big as I thought bit still 2.5 cm. She was very positive and said it is treatable but I feel a bit overwhelmed at times.

It is so lovely to read your victory story!

  • Night time gremlins get us all.  There is an awake thread that's been running for years for just general chat and there are a few nocturnal posters.  Newbies very, very welcome.  Just jump to last post .  If on iPhone it's >> takes you to last page and you just reply to last post and say hi.  You can stay completely anonymous if you want .  You share as much as you are comfortable with.

Thank you dear Carol!! I feel particularly anxious tonight.

  • Please post in there .  We all understand the anxiety.  You will be showered with love & understanding.  Also plenty of humour there too.   Try to stay off google as it can terrify you especially late at night when you are tired.  I remember having a meltdown when waiting for surgery date at 3am. I sobbed my heart out into my pillow  but I felt so much better after it,

  • Hi from me too .  You are at the most stressful part of this journey but as  says, you will feel better once you have your treatment plan.  There are lots of success stories on here and reading them is what got me through.  I was diagnosed in December 2020 and am all done with treatment now - just a daily tablet to take.  You can read my story too.  Breast cancer is very treatable these days so keep reminding yourself of that.

Join us on AWAKE as Grogg has suggested.  Just say Hi and you will get a very warm welcome from everyone.

You will get through this. Xx

Thank you. It is quite strange how the different emotions come and go. Please take care of yourself and keep me posted on how you are doing!

  • Initial diagnosis is the worst time. Once you know  your treatment plan you have time to come to terms with it and you will get support if you need it. I did not use  support network and wished that I had but know I find great comfort in this community.

Keep calm and carry on as my 3 sisters told me! You will feel better when you know what is happening. Good luck and keep on with the community as it's great for meeting people like us!
