Hi
I had colorectal surgery 5 weeks ago and still in discomfort in the area the surgery was, the surgical team has said it takes a while for it all to settle.
Although the tumour has all been removed I need chemo to 'mop up anything left behind - microscopic bits'
I was told yesterday it will most likely be tablet form chemo but they have said about 6 months and I was not expecting it to be so long.
Has anyone had this and did you have sickness, diarrhoea etc.
I'm really worried financially as my employers are not paying me and I will not be able to manage alot of time off work.
Has anyone had this and still been able to work OK.
Big hugs to anyone going through this.
Thank you
Hi pennyshouse
Thank you for this, it really helps to hear about other people's experiences. I went into work today and I'm abit sore this evening were my resection is. Did you experience this ?
Thank you do much and I hope your well.

Yes I did. 5 weeks is still very soon after. My consultant reminded me that while it may not look so bad from the outside, there’s been a lot of moving everything around on the inside, cutting through muscle etc too. I started going for ‘proper’ walks at 8 weeks post op and was very tender after in certain spots. It gradually became less but about 12 weeks I think it took. My op was start of Feb and I don’t feel any ‘niggles’ now x
Pennyshouse thank you.
I know I think I tried to do too much today.
It's good to hear how your doing.
Thank you very much.

Hi
Sorry just wanted to ask, were my resection is sometimes sits out/swells, I'm being told by the nurses that it's normal and will eventually settle. Have you had this?
Thanks
Caramel x
Yes I sometimes had this, I could see one particular spot near an incision that would often have swelling especially when I was trying to move about normally again. I think it was on and off for about 12 weeks. I had mine start of feb and swelling has gone now xx
Hi Caramel,
I had my surgery in October and it took a good few months to recover. Even though the surgery was keyhole, it's still major abdominal surgery and takes quite a while for the swelling and bruising to go down and to get your energy back.
I was also given mop up treatment afterwards for six months which I was surprised was so long. Mine was FOLFOX chemo.
I wasn't able to work, as I work in a primary school and my oncologist was worried about infection with my immunity so low, so I applied for PIP,
Take care
